About this deal

The Xiaomi Pad 5 has a premium four speaker setup with support for Dolby Atmos. All four speakers are rather large at 16mm x 20mm and are symmetrically placed on the shorter sides behind dotted grilles.

Performance is exceptional for the price. The iPad and its A13 Bionic chipset still has the edge, but not by nearly as much as I was expecting. With a Geekbench 5 single-core score of 662 and a multi-core processing result of 2,773, the Xiaomi Pad 5 is rapid. Paired with the 120Hz display, this makes for a tablet that feels as smooth as its top-scoring benchmarks suggest – every other low-priced Android tablet we’ve tested is left languishing in the dirt.

The Xiaomi Pad 5 is a well balanced performance Android tablet with an Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 Octacore processor based on a 7nm process technology, which makes multi-tasking quite effective on this platform. It comes with an Adreno 640 GPU which makes rendering of games and graphics intensive applications easy. With 6 GB of RAM and UFS 3.1 storage of 128 GB or 256 GB, installing and playing even heavy games like BGMI or COD mobile are simple - and they run without any hitches at high graphics settings. With a 120 Hz display, some games really deliver a very smooth experience, e.g. Altos Adventure. The large display helps the user comfortably handle the game on screen controls and the quad speaker setup with dynamic mapping as per orientation lets the user comfortably swap positions after long hours of play without affecting the game sound. If we were to compare the Xiaomi Pad 5’s appearance to that of one of Apple’s roster, it’d be the iPad Air 4 - it’s a device that’s thin, has a narrow bezel and boasts a minimalist design. A full charge requires 2 hours sharp, not bad for a tablet. If you own the 33W charger, the full charge time drops down to 1 hour and 38 minutes. Time to full charge (from 0%) This is the kind of tablet you can definitely use two-handed or prop up in a stand or case, but unlike your iPad mini, it’s not ideal for holding in one hand and navigating with the other, due to its size. Display Unlike some tablets on the market, Xiaomi doesn’t offer an LTE model of the Xiaomi Pad 5 - you’ll have to use this while it’s connected to Wi-Fi or a hotspot.

The Xiaomi Pad 5 is a swish Android tablet both inside and out. It’s a relatively simple construction, but despite this, looks quite elegant, with chamfered clean-cut edges, minimal screen bezels and a premium reflective finish on the rear. It matches the more expensive iPad Air in terms of looks, with the basic iPad continuing to look rather dated by comparison. One of the key specs of the Xiaomi Pad 5 is its 11-inch screen, which boasts a 1600 x 2560 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and the ability to display over a billion colors (there are that many?!). It doesn’t have the lofty goals of replacing a laptop, instead it’s being marketed as a device for people that want a tablet to watch Netflix and manage their day-to-day life on. The tablet doesn’t have a formal IP water resistance rating, which is rarely standard on tablets, but I’ve been impressed with its build quality during testing.

The highlights of the Pad 5 display include 120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit color support, as well as HDR10 and Dolby Vision capabilities. Let's not forger the Smart Pen compatibility with 240Hz sampling and 4,096 pressure levels recognition. It’s not often I finish writing an Android tablet review where I’ve had plenty of nice things to say about it. Tablets running Google’s mobile OS that are actually worth recommending are few and far between, but the Xiaomi Pad 5 has hit its brief and then some. Battery life is one of the most important areas a tablet really needs to deliver on. As a rule, I’d expect any tablet this size to survive a long haul flight to the US (from London), off a single charge. This means it should generally be able to run for at least 10 hours. The Xiaomi Pad 5 is a powerful Android tablet which aims to let users 'Do it better', whether its Entertainment, Productivity or Gaming. When not side-by-side, I don’t think most people would notice a difference. They both score a solid 4/5.Gaming puts an even bigger drain on the battery. Streaming games over GeForce Now the tablet discharged an average of 22-25% of its battery. Taking things offline and playing games from the Play Store the tablet performed slightly better shedding an average of 18-20% per hour. This means you’re not going to want to rely on it as a mobile games station when travelling long distances. The Xiaomi Pad 5 has three predefined Color presets - Vivid (previously known as Auto), Saturated, and Standard - each representing a specific color space. You can also enable Adaptive Colors - the same thing Apple calls True Tone - adjust the colors depending on the ambient light. Highlights include a super smooth, gaming ready 120Hz screen, powerful performance and long battery life. This setup is quite loud with incredibly balanced output - the Pad 5 scored a Very Good mark on our loudness test. The tablet covered 99.2% of the sRGB gamut, which is the most commonly used gamut. It covered 82.5% of the Adobe RGB and 93.6% of the DCI P3 gamuts, which are favoured by creatives and cinematographers. Most of the tablets I test this price cover 70% of the creative gamuts, at best, so these scores are impressive.
